College Fair/Workshop on Admissions Process & Funding - March 12, 2020 | 4p-8p | Queens Borough Hall

Queens Borough President Sharon Lee invites you to the upcoming Parent Advisory Board College Fair and College Admissions/Financial aid workshop on Thursday, March 12, 2020 from 4pm to 8pm at Queens Borough Hall located at 120-55 Queens Boulevard in Kew Gardens, NY(in the Atrium downstairs).  We will be hosting a college Fair from 4pm to 8pm that will include SUNYs, CUNYs, Private Universities and Ivy Leagues. The event will include a workshop on the College Admissions Process and How to Fund your child’s college education from 6pm to 8pm.  Packets with important information will be distributed during the workshop. 


Parents will have an opportunity to learn and ask questions about the different college options, the college admissions process, and details on financial aid, SAT’s, and more.

All parents and educators are invited to attend this informative meeting.

John Jay School of Criminal Justice College, York College,  Queens Borough Community College, City College of New York, CUNY School of Labor and Urban Studies, Borough of Manhattan Community College, SUNY Old Westbury, Nassau Community College, SUNY Oneonta,

SUNY Cortland, SUNY Farmingdale, SUNY Geneseo, SUNY Potsdam, and more.

6pm –8pm          College Workshop (room behind the stage) on: The College Admissions Process and how to fund your child’s College education featuring:


Meylin Andares – Director of Enrollment Management & Student Success; State University of New York (SUNY) - will speak on the SUNY admissions process, financial aid, IEPs, and the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP).


Mark Ciolli – University Director of Recruitment; City University of New York (CUNY) - will speak on the CUNY admissions process, financial aid, DACA, IEPs, and the SEEK and College Discovery Programs.


Karli McMenamin – Excelsior Fellow; New York State Higher Education Services Corporation - will speak about Governor Cuomo’s Excelsior Scholarship for a tuition-free college education in NYS and NYC public universities, 529 College Savings Plan, and Governor Cuomo’s NYS Loan Forgiveness Program.


Jeremy Wang – Department of Education College Counselor at Townsend Harris High School - will speak about taking FREE College classes while still in High School, the deadlines and the college process on the High School level, and the importance of the SAT Exam, the SAT score, and FREE resources to prepare for the SAT exam.


Susan Shiroma – Network Engagement Manager, Northeast U.S.; Candid

Will speak about private grants and scholarships for students who qualify and do not qualify for financial aid.


The College admissions process can be intimidating and confusing for many parents and students especially if they are navigating it for the first time. The Parent Advisory Board meeting will provide guidance and clarification in order to help parents and students through the college process. Schools may backpack the invite attached above (with the agenda) home with all students.   College information will be given out during the college fair and important packets will be given out during the workshop portion of the event.
